Personal Statement
My teaching philosophy is all about balance. I look for students that are willing to learn basic musicianship skills. In return, I help my students learn to play the songs that they’re interested in. I feel that I’m very effective at clearly communicating the subject matter to students in a way that they can understand. I’m very patient and supportive while still providing challenges to my students to help them to the next level. I strive to make each lesson fun and productive.
Education / Training
I earned a Bachelor of Music (in jazz guitar performance) from Cornish College of the Arts. As a Cornish student, I earned multiple talent-based scholarships and graduated Magna Cum Laude. I have studied with guitarists John Stowell, Dave Peterson, Doug Zangar and Mark Oi. I have also taken private lessons from pianist Dawn Clement and bassist Chuck Deardorf. All of this private instruction, coupled with the music education that I received from Cornish, has given me a broad base of knowledge to draw from. I’m able to incorporate the best elements of each teaching style into my own style. I have a genuine passion for teaching and furthering the art of guitar playing.
