Personal Statement

Maria L. Buonviri holds a Bachelor of Bassoon Performance from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia; a Master of Bassoon and Contrabassoon Performance from Texas Christian University
in Fort Worth, TX; and an Artist Certificate in Bassoon Performance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. She studied with Leonardo Guevara and Jorge Jaramillo, both bassoonists of Orquesta Sinfonica de Colombia; Willard Elliot, former principal bassoon of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; and Wilfred Roberts, principal bassoon of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.

For the past 20 years Maria has performed professionally and taught students of all ages and levels. She has performed with renowned artists such us Orquesta Sinfonica de Colombia, Orquesta Filarmonica de Bogota, Orquesta del Estado de Mexico, Dallas Wind Symphony, Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Ballet, Reading Symphony, Delaware Symphony, and Utah Festival Opera.

Her teaching appointments have included: Music Theory at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogota, Colombia; Adjunct Instructor of Bassoon at
Pacific Union College, Angwin, CA; Adjunct Professor of Bassoon at Haverford College; Haverford, PA; and Bassoon Studio Assistant at Southern Methodist University; Dallas, TX.

Buonviri Bassoon Studio provides superb one-on-one instruction on bassoon and contra-bassoon, as well as reed-making techniques in both instruments.

Students develop a wide range of specific musical skills: listening, reading, memorizing, and performing. Each student is encouraged to develop unique and personal musicianship through development of all these skills.

The true hallmark of the studio is building human character through communication skills, self-discipline, teamwork and
creativity.
