With orchestral solos hailed as sterling by the New York Times and sensitively shaped by the Chicago Tribune, Nathan Mills, tenured principal oboist of Chicago’s Grant Park Festival Orchestra and active freelancer in New York City, is a young oboist and concert musician on the rise in the classical music scene.
Outside of his New York and Chicago engagements, Nathan has also performed with several other notable ensembles, including the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Jacksonville Symphony, and Princeton Symphony, where he is acting English Horn for the 2013-14 season. He also recently performed his debut solo engagement with the Grant Park Festival Orchestra, playing Frank Martins Concerto for Seven Winds under the baton of Thierry Fischer. Nathan has performed under several notable conductors, including James Levine, Alan Gilbert, Fabio Luisi, Bernard Haitink, Valery Gergiev, Essa-Pekka Salonen, Marin Alsop, David Robertson, and Emmanuel Villaume.
Nathan is a recent graduate of The Juilliard School, where he received his undergraduate and graduate degrees studying with Nathan Hughes and Elaine Douvas, with additional instruction from Pedro Diaz and Linda Strommen. He has previously spent his summers at Spoleto Festival USA, Festival Mozaic, Pacific Music Festival, Music Academy of the West and Aspen Music Festival, and was a New York String Orchestra Seminar participant in Carnegie Hall.
