Personal Statement
My name is Murat. I’m a full time musician and guitar teacher at the University of Pennsylvania and I play and teach guitar and Oud, a Middle Eastern instrument. I play many different styles of music, and when I teach I always go towards what the interest of the student is. Music is my life and I’m extremely passionate about it. I play classical, acoustic, and electric guitar, and I also write my own music. I teach all of these styles, with a heavy focus and ear training, improvisation, and understanding music theory. I also teach Turkish, Arab, and other music from the Middle East and Balkans on the oud, and I also teach Latin, Spanish and other world music styles at a more basic level.
I charge 50 for hour long lessons out of my apartment in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and charge 60 per hour for lessons in Manhattan.
You can see some of my music on my website:

Education / Training
I started studying classical guitar when I was 11 and Oud when I was 14. Although I studied math in college, I got a masters degree in anthropology of music from the University of Pennsylvania after college, and I still work there as a guitar teacher.
