Personal Statement

Music has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. Music is my passion, and I enjoy sharing this with others. My teaching style is to share my knowledge of music with my students and to find what works for them. I want my students to enjoy music but also take it seriously. My students will understand the importance of practicing regularly as well as to ask questions whenever they do not understand a concept. I myself am a performer, teacher, composer and conductor, so I believe that I can guide a student of any interest further in the musical process. A teacher should know and understand what a student is going through as they are learning. If the teacher is teaching a student how to perform, for example, then the teacher should be a performer as well. I care about my students and want them to be successful. I am willing to go out of my way to make sure a student discovers what kind of musician they want to be. Developing as a musician also helps one develop as a person, and I want to help my students become well-rounded thinkers and explorers!
