Personal Statement

Mr. Ferreira teaches Private Violin Lessons to students of all ages from beginers to advanced levels. Adult students are also welcomed!

Students who are seeking a music/violin career or plan to enter a conservatory, profit from instruction informed by his many years of experience in teaching and performing. He often works with violinists who are already well established in the profession, and eager to benefit from his consultation, but love of music and the violin, and not necessarily professional aspiration, is what he seeks in prospective students.

Critically acclaimed concert violinist, recording artist, composer and author, Peter Ferreira (born: Pedro Ferreira), has been a very active violinist since the age of 6, inspired by his grandfather, also a violinist. He entered the Conservatorio De Musica in Coimbra, Portugal, where he studied with teacher Dario Peixoto.

Peter Ferreira is described in Comunidades USA Magazine as one of the most celebrated Portuguese-born violinist of the modern era… Since a very young age, Peter spent his formative years training as a classical musician, surrounded by many of the violin masters of the ages… From J.S. Bach to Piazzolla, Peter’s seasoned golden tone performances have an abundant hot Mediterranean influence, sure to captivate the audience!

Although classically trained, Peter is equally comfortable performing classical music as he is playing rock, jazz, tango, world music or his own Portuguese folk idiom and is a rare musician who defies definition. A kind of universal musician so rarely encountered in our time .

Peter’s crossover performances include music from the classical masterpieces to pop, rock, jazz, world music and Latin repertoire to name a few and as opted to “fuse” the new and the old together. He is highly regarded as a virtuoso soloist on a symphonic stage, but equally as comfortable in front of an audience with his band behind him.

In 1988, Danbury High School awards Peter with a Senior Orchestra Award.
Mr. Ferreira has received various awards during his years in high school and college while studying with such great violinists as Mara Milkis, , Erick Friedman, James Graseck and Isaac Stern. He has also participated in master classes with Pinchas Zukerman and Itzhak Perlman.

As a soloist, Mr. Ferreira has been repeatedly praised for the beauty of is tone, the depth and flair of his musicianship, and his rare balance of virtuosity and sensitivity. He has performed as soloist with orchestras and ensembles in the United States, Canada, South America and Europe. He founded the Dresden String Quartet in 1998, and performed as its first violinist through 2002.

In April 2006, Peter Ferreira and Paulo Soares arrange and record various pieces of traditional Portuguese Coimbra Fado Music in his hometown Coimbra. Marking a new era in these genre of music with something never done before.

2007 Mr. Ferreira publishes is first book – The Violin Companion.

In 2008, Peter Ferreira traveled to his hometown, Coimbra, per invitation of the University and Town of Coimbra, where he performed a live concert at the famous Jardim da Sereia with his friend and guitarist Paulo Soares (Port. guitar). Later that year, Mr. Ferreira commissioned composer Don Nardo, to compose a double concerto for violin, guitar and orchestra, introducing the Portuguese Guitar into a pure classical setting for the first time.

In May 2009, Peter Ferreira publishes his second Edition of The Violin Companion now available online, Amazon and at other book retailers. He also announces is 3rd book – The Violinist, An Inside View of the Real Music World, and a new Scale Book for the young violinist.

Finally, Mr. Ferreira is an active freelance musician and composer. In 2003, one of his personal compositions was featured in a video documentary about the underwater exploration of the German U853 submarine which sank off the Rhode Island coast during WWII. As an independent artist, Mr. Ferreira teaches privately, lectures, and conducts master classes at different schools and through his private studios. He has also recorded four CD albums, two of them in his own studio and now under his own independent record label, Sonus Records.
