Personal Statement
Music is a big part of our lives. We don’t always recognize it, but it is enough to look at the people with headphones on the subway to realize that most of us are listening to the music almost all the time.
Music helps us in daily life. We listen to it when we are happy and it helps us to fight off bad mood. We listen to different kinds of music, but music is what unites us.
I would love to share my knowledge and experience gained from teaching and performing with young students. I enjoy working with children. They are open, curious, and sincere. I like to discover their personality and individuality and, most importantly to accomplish the main task, which is to impart my passion for music.
I think that it is our responsibility to incorporate music into the childrens lives. We have to show how much fun it could be to be able to play, listen, discuss, make decisions about the interpretation and perform. However, I also try to explain to my students that besides fun we have to work hard in order to be able to improve. It is my responsibility to explain to my students that the result is closely related to the amount of practicing. The ability to concentrate and be ready to work hard is not of a less importance. Especially the students with high potential, who are willing to achieve something, have to recognize the connection between the intensity of practicing and final results.
It is my responsibility to provide my students with strong fundamentals, to one of which in my opinion, belongs technique. Pianistic technique is not only about velocity, but also about the production of sound. It is essential for my students to learn how to use their arm, wrist, and how to involve the whole body in order to produce variety of sounds. Although technique is an essential part of playing, it needs to serve the bigger purpose of making music.
An important principle of my teaching philosophy is individual treatment. From my own experience I know that every student has his own needs and therefore I try to find an individual approach to each of my students. I learn about their technical problems and try to fix them. I take the time and make sure to work out the right strategy for every student in my studio.
To conclude, the most important points of my teaching are: Stay true to the musical score, developing technique, which should never be mere finger exercise, find an individual approach to every student, teach them not only about one particular piece, but connect music to history and art around it, so that the student is not limited in his knowledge, but discovers new horizons with every new composer and every new piece.
