Personal Statement
I believe in using music to teach life skills and developing life long music lovers. Music skills can be translated into any setting. I believe in teaching improvisation as early as possible to ensure freedom and flexibility in playing. Teaching this skill develops a fluid and developed musician and person. Students are able to adapt to any situation with improvisation skills both musically and personally. I believe in creating a team between the parent, student, and child. Together we will create the best possible environment, always nurturing and always unique to each child.
I am extremely passionate about alternative styles. Alternative styles keep music alive for many kids. I love for students to tell me what they would like to play, (while on an appropriate level). Students should have access to all types of music so that they may have as many choices as possible to give freedom and flexibility.
I believe in learning by doing. With younger students I incorporate games in the lesson so that children learn music skills by actively participating. These games can be duplicated at home so the child continues to have fun while learning and to continue to develop the parental relationship.
My proudest moments are my students performances and accomplishments. I try to embody what I want my students to be flexible, adaptable, optimistic, and proud.
