The Sphinx Preparatory Music Institute’s program offers classes to Detroit students in music history and instrumental performance during both fall and winter semesters, and is open to string, woodwind, brass, percussion and piano instrumentalists, ages 12-18, with a focus on middle school students. The program is designed to address the needs of students in pursuit of music studies at beginning and intermediate levels who have not had access to steady, balanced musical training. All students are initially divided into three separate class groups consisting of mixed disciplines and backgrounds encouraging them to interact and network on a constant basis. Sphinx Preparatory Music Institute also features a guest artist/ensemble performance, including potential performances by the Sphinx Academy Quartet, and Sphinx Preparatory Students.
