The Berkshire Music School (formerly Pittsfield Community Music School) was founded in 1940 to provide music instruction to all who desire it, regardless of ability to pay. Its 500 students, who come primarily from Pittsfield and nearby towns, range in age from 18 months to well over 60 and have many reasons for studying - from serious career goals to enhanced recreational enjoyment. BMS offers special programs for pre-schoolers, private instrumental and voice lessons, theory classes, orchestral and small ensemble instruction, and numerous performance opportunities.
