The Community Music School provides private lessons in all instruments and voice to adults and children from throughout the Connecticut Valley/Shoreline area. Group classes are offered for beginners in violin, guitar, piano and voice. Suzuki instruction is available in violin and guitar. CMS also has a well-established Kindermusik program for children ages 6 months to 7 years. A music therapist provides instruction and support to people with physical or developmental disabilities. The school's 600 students are provided many performance opportunities within the community, and music programs such as junior and senior string ensembles and youth jazz ensemble are popular. A variety of workshops and special events, including an adults-only music retreat, round out the year. Special summer programs include musical theater workshops and jazz week.
