Personal Statement

I am a classically trained musician, but also have had experience performing in a band, both as a singer and pianist/keyboardist, and also as a soloist. I think it is important to give my students a solid education based on classical repertoire and building a strong knowledge in music theory, but, also, I want them to be well-rounded musicians able to function in any situation. This would include ensemble work, learning how to improvise, knowing how to harmonize, good sight-reading skills, etc. I am a member of the Washington State Music Teachers Association and am nationally certified as a music teacher. This gives my students opportunities for performances, adjudications and competitions. This musical knowledge will last a lifetime and give many years of fun and enjoyment.
